CHARLES DARWIN’S LEGACY
Charles Darwin’s voyage on HMS Beagle is one of the richest and most important chapters in the history of scientific study.
Building upon this legacy is central to the Darwin 200 project, and scientific study is central to all three main elements of the Darwin 200 voyage, namely:
1. The research projects and public engagement activities of the 200 Darwin Ambassadors (see THE AMBASSADORS).
2. The vast platform of free, online science-based outreach activities for schools and students that will be beamed from the ship throughout the voyage (see THE MISSION).
3. The five programs of research activities which will explore the science behind environmental problems and demonstrate real solutions (see THE MISSION).
Through these activities, and by showcasing the diversity of the natural world throughout the voyage through Charles Darwin’s eyes, Darwin 200 will inspire hundreds of millions of people across the globe to reconnect with nature and become part of the adventure of science.
